Lisa Dougherty trained in South Africa and came to the UK in 1982. She has worked in oncology since 1985 and in intravenous therapy since 1986.

She was a clinical nurse specialist for 13 years and took up the post of Nurse Consultant IV Therapy at The Royal Marsden Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in 2004. She has given presentations at national and international conferences and has written and edited a number of books. She recently completed her clinical doctorate looking at decision making by nurses during IV drug administration.
